Basic Features
Webfolios since 1995 - Time tested portfolio methodology that can support one or more classes, one or more departments, or an entire institution.
Intuitive interface and learning aids - Consistent and flexible interface reduces learning curve. The system contains a portfolio workshop that teaches students how to use the system.
Text, image, sound, video - Stores student multimedia artifacts (work samples) in an electronic webfolio.
Easy WYSIWYG editing - Artifacts may be entered and changed by the built-in word processor, copied and pasted from MS Word (or any word processor or web page), or accessed through a hyper-link.
Includes teacher provided assignments - Artifacts are given context by connecting them to assignments.
Course management features- Teacher generated assignments and syllabi are integrated with student work. Activities and assignments appear automatically in the students’ portfolios on teacher scheduled dates.
System tailored to your setting - A standard but flexible department defined structure for assignments (e.g. Assignment, Help, Resources, and Assessment) is supported.
Database maintained to support continuous improvement in curriculum and student lifelong learning - Historical records of assignments, syllabi, and artifacts may be kept for long periods of time to support both student and program assessment. A student’s webfolio supports lifelong learning even after graduation.
Encourages sharing of best practices - Supports “best practices” concepts by allowing easy sharing of assignment and syllabi resources.
Supports learning dialog - Maintains a dialog between students, teachers, and mentors for continuous improvement of student work through an artifact comment log and controlled access to portfolios.
Integration of student life, career planning, and formal course activities – The students can add sections that identify student life and career planning activities to be addressed just as they add formal courses.
Flexibility in controlling access to the portfolios - Access to each of the many sections of a student’s portfolio can be set independently. At the college level, the student can set this access and at the K-12 level, access can be under the control of the teacher.
Portfolio presentation tailored to viewer category - Supports different views of a student’s webfolio for teachers, mentors, recruiters, or the web community.
Upload capability - Separate upload folders are maintained for individual students, teachers, and departments to facilitate the storage and retrieval of images, linked documents, sounds, worksheets, etc.
